I’m going to give full credit to my 8yo here. He’s the one who pulled the cord on this lightbulb moment.
My shower has been pretty clean since I started doing my weekly tasks.
Before that . . . not so much.
One night, pre-regular-shower-cleaning, I noticed that he was taking extra long in the shower. I didn’t think much of it until I took my shower the next morning. The floor looked better.
Every time he showered, it got even better.
He had figured out, completely on his own, that scrubbing the shower floor gets the grime off. Even without spraying anything on it. To make myself feel better, I choose to believe that he was having fun, not that he was feeling completely scarred, and desperate to clean the shower his mother had long neglected.
Once I actually started cleaning the shower on a regular basis (not depending on cleaning intuition) I started noticing small amounts of floor ick, before it got to the point that it was overwhelming. That little brush was sitting there in the floor of the shower, and it turns out that it’s just flexible and textured enough that I can put my foot on it and scrub, without even bending over! I started quickly scrubbing off any grimy spots the minute they started to be visible.
Walah! The ick was gone!
Now, with that little revelation and weekly cleaning, my shower is rarely full-fledged-icky.

Wow – way to go, little man!

Oooh, great idea! I hate having to bend over and get close to the "ick" to clean it with my hands and a scrub brush… having one in there I can use with my feet is an awesome idea! Thank you for sharing!!

Can you send him to my apartment? I could use a little help!

If you spray the shower walls and floor with cleaner a few minutes before you take a shower the gunk doesn't build up. Your shower rinses the walls and saves water too. Alternately, spray the walls and floor with vinegar after you shower but don't rinse.

I need your son to come and stay here with us. Perhaps some of his habits would rub off on my kids.
Looking forward to meeting you at Savvy Blogging

The picture is rather nonspecific–what kind/size of brush is that?

Ordering this today. What a game changer. The game being the mental Earnest P. Wurl “ewwwwwww” factor of delaying cleaning the bathroom until company comes.
