I didn’t order any Zaycon chicken when it came to town recently because I thought I still had plenty.
Then, as I was adding (many) bags of pre-cooked ground beef to my upright freezer, I started to panic when I realized I maybe should have ordered another forty pounds.
I was down to only five meals worth of chicken!!!
Panic . . . because that’s how I roll.
What if we run out and I end up paying . . . like . . . three dollars a pound for chicken until they come again!!!???
The horror.
Then, on Friday, I got an email saying they were doing a quick delivery in my area. Order by Sunday, pick up on Monday.
Whew.
Soooo, obviously I’ll be trimming and bagging chicken tomorrow. Might as well embrace the chicken recipes this week.
Monday – Grilled Chicken Breasts
Tuesday – Chicken Stir Fry with Ramen (ended up having Chicken Fried Rice last week)
Wednesday – Baked Penne with Beef
Thursday – Fajitas (chicken)
Friday – Out to Eat
Saturday – Spinach Artichoke Pizza with . . . chicken.
Sunday – Potato Soup (no chicken)
Here’s the video in which I show how I package and freeze FORTY pounds of chicken:
Not sure what “Zaycon chicken” is? They sell various products (mostly meat) in large quantities for great prices. They make deliveries at different times to different areas, and you go pick up your order at a specific time. You can sign up to be on their e-mail list to get notifications when they’re coming to your area.
I am so sorry to say that it seems Zaycon has gone out of business. I say “seems” because the information I’ve seen says they’ve “suspended” operations and I don’t fully understand what is happening. I’m so so sad about this since this will change how our family keeps our freezer stocked with meat. We’ve been ordering almost all of our chicken, bacon, and shrimp for them for more than five years. If you had ordered recently, I recommend that you call your credit card company or bank (for debit cards) to see what can be done. I’ve heard many people have had success doing this.
What’s on your menu for the week?
I’m linking this up to Menu Plan Monday over at Orgjunkie.com.

I just made our menus! This week I’m trying a new recipe for stuffed cabbage rolls, but we’re also supposed to be eating potato soup, tuna salad, beef stroganoff, and quick homemade pizza.

Because of you, our freezer is now stocked with chicken and ground beef. Zaycon really is a wonderful service. I only wish I’d known about it when the teenage boys were living at home! Well, at least we’re ready for the summer break from college. Thanks so much!!

My own little world goes sideways if I don’t have a menu plan.
M-white bean/chicken enchiladas
T- country steak/gravy mashed potatoes corn
W-boneless pork chops, baked apples, baked beans
T-chili
F- grilled chicken with mango salsa, corn, green beans
S-speghetti/salad
S- patty melts, slaw, krinkle fries
Desserts- pan fried PB/jelly sandwiches with cinn sugar, brownies, peach cobbler, choc pudding pie.
I stocked up on sausage this week, so that will be my freezer prep bulk cooking to be done sometime this week.

Oh wow! I am completely jealous of the Zaycon chicken! I just looked and there are no events scheduled in the tri-state area (which would be me willing to drive up to 3 hours!) (Got here via Monday Menu Planning and you’re my first comment!

I signed up with Zaycon. Thank you, I’d never heard of their services before but when I went to their site I saw that quite a few of my friends “like” them via Facebook. 🙂 I was disappointed to learn that they don’t have anything scheduled in my area yet (and when they do I’ll have to drive about an hour) but I’m looking forward to when they do make their way here and I’ll be sure to buy LOTS of meat to stock my freezer.

It must be chicken week! My menu plan is all chicken this week, too, because it’s what was on sale at the store so I bought LOTS and LOTS (can’t beat $1.77 a pound)
🙂
Great menu plan.

Yep, just bought the 40 lbs of chicken AND the 40 lbs of hamburger! Have to say, packaging the hamburger went faster than the chicken did! (No washing, trimming, etc. That was nice!) I’m not quite as organized yet with my chicken planning. I guess I need to do a better job next time. But I will filch some of these recipes to try with my family!
Sarah says
How much is the chicken? I looked and looked ( could be that I was also do 50 other things at the same time) but couldn’t find how much the 40 lbs cost.
