Tackle It Whenever Declutter Cabinet at ASlobComesClean.com
This was supposed to be my Tackle It Tuesday post. I gave myself 10 minutes to get this done, but then the phone rang twice, and my daughter walked in with a kooshball pencil topper stuck in her hair. Really stuck. As in, it looked like I just might have to cut it out. But I didn’t.
Anyway, it’s now Thursday and I’m posting this. Even though it isn’t Tuesday, I’m glad to have finished this task since this cabinet was driving me crazy.
It’s amazing how when you start having all of your dishes clean almost all of the time, your cabinets seem smaller. Before, we would have a few cups in the cabinet, but most were in the dishwasher (clean or dirty) or in the sink, or scattered throughout the house.
The other part of this problem is my couponing obsession. You know, if you coupon, that medicines are one of the things to stock up on. So I do. And I stick them in the cabinet until it’s one huge mess and there’s no room for anything.
Here’s what the cabinet looked like before:

Here are all of the things I threw away. Some are expired items, and some things are trash, but most are things I consolidated. You can put a lot more in a box than the manufacturer does. When I got a great deal on ibuprofen once, I bought five bottles, but was able to consolidate them into two bottles after removing the big cotton ball.

Here’s the after picture. I know that it would be nice for the glasses and cups to be arranged more artfully, but I’m glad to have gotten this much accomplished in the few minutes I allowed for this task.

I am constantly amazed at how much of an impact I can make in just a small amount of time. Now, if I will just do this to every drawer, closet, cabinet in the house, I’ll be in great shape!

Looks great. Yes it takes time to go through all the rest of the house and do the same.
I think we always think it will take a long time to make a difference but I do surprise myself too on how short a time it does actually take.

My biggest housecleaning roadblock is thinking about all the time it takes. Thanks to you though I actually completed a daily task list before we left the house on a crazy hectic day and ended up doing more than I thought I could. You really are an inspiration.

We used boxes from Clementine oranges to organize that type of stuff, one for band-aids and related items and another for medicines. Much easier to grab the box, get what you need, and put it back so that it STAYS organized.

Just wanted to say thank you for motivating me. I didn’t want to get my tasks done today at all. I literally procrastinated almost the entire day away and threw out every excuse in the book for why NOT to do them, but then I found myself reading a couple of your posts. And that made all the difference. I got up and finally started doing the stuff I was supposed to have done this morning around 4:30 pm and not too long afterwards my hubby walked in from being out in the hot sun all day. Better late than never, right?

Just wanted to let you know..i started reading your post from day one..thus far i am this far into your blogs and you’ve really inspired me. we are very much alike in some ways and i like how you are like me, not organized minded and a neat freak and yet on this road to learn to be better. I am now on that road and i started blogging as well to inspire myself along this journey. i think if i have to be accountable to more than myself, i will find less excuses to get things accomplished daily ..thank you for the inspiration and look forward to reading your progressive journey. i don’t think i can add on new have to do chores weekly…because I have so many projects in motion and i can’t afford to do that yet..but i do think eventually i will. i do have a daily clean list active, just not committing to them daily as of yet..i do however, get them done most everyday and i am going to blog what i do daily ..just might be different stuff…i have a dream…we are like minded just different in how we attack the situations..your way makes much better sense and if i can find my way to the end of what i’ve started, might get on your roller coaster of how you get your mojo going! i did look to see your still at it many years later so…i applaud you!

I have heard (and it makes a small bit of sense) that it is not good to combine bottles of medicines like this. The rationale is that if something should happen and a child or pet or someone bent on doing harm to themselves should get a hold of it and ingest a large amount, paramedics and first responders will rely on the quantity printed on the bottle to guide them in how much has been ingested. If there are 100 left in the bottle that says it holds 200 they will assume the victim has 100 pills in them. But if the bottle really had 400 in it because of combining, the victim has 3 times the drugs in them, which in some cases would drastically change how they were evaluated and treated, possibly a matter of life and death.

I will be the first to admit that I still do this. But I like to give people information so that they can make an informed decision for themselves and their family.

Even better would be NOT buy or INGEST any drugs & find alternative, natural remedies for you & your family. These drugs are toxic & dangerous, so why would you give them to your children? Do your own research people into Big Pharma & their interest in making people sick so that they make more money from their synthetic chemicals!
