The Master Bedroom Saga: Part 10

Oh my word.  It’s JANUARY of 2013, and I still haven’t finished posting the Master Bedroom Saga????

Well, this is the next-to-the-last post in this series.  It’s the end of the video footage I shot while actually doing the project, and I put it into two different videos.  (If you’re reading by email, click on the title of the post to get to the blog where you can see the videos.)  At this point, I’d stopped bothering to write in the daily journal, so I’m just going on memory and what I said/did in the videos.

Basically, it went like this:

(All characters played by me.  All characters are me.  I have lots of these internal dialogues . . . )

“Oh no! I’m never, ever going to finish this stupid project!  What was I thinking!!??!!??!!”

“Chill.  Do the easy stuff.”

“OK, that helped.  I got some easy things done, but WHY oh WHY do I always find stuff like books of Broadway songs at the bottom of piles of shoes??  WHY??”

“Get over it.  Ask your first decluttering question (that YOU invented) and then go put it wherever you would look for it first.  It’s not that big of a deal.”

“So the room is looking significantly better as I’ve worked through it little by little, but what about this?  Huh?  I mean, this almost-15-year-old Rolling Stone magazine with the Seinfeld characters dressed as Wizard of Oz characters . . . . THAT could be valuable!  So what do I do with that???”

“Ummmm, check how much it’s selling for on eBay.  That ‘could be valuable’ excuse doesn’t fly anymore.  You can know whether or not it’s valuable.  In, like, 28 seconds.”

“Fine.  You were right.  Ten dollars isn’t worth my time to put this on eBay right now.  Maybe a few years ago when I was selling on there all the time, but now that I’m busy with . . . ”

“Stop talking.  Get back to work.  You have to finish this project.”

“Oh.  Right.  Sorry.”

And . . . that’s about it.  I did this huge project in August of 2012.  I wrote my new e-book, Drowning in Clutter?, in December.  Looking back at the videos confirmed that all the strategies in the e-book are the actual strategies I use as I work my way through decluttering projects.

All of them.  Little ones or seriously-is-this-ever-going-to-end ones.

My goal for next week?  Post the FINALE of this series.  The still-to-be-shot finale.  The oh-my-word-am-I-really-going-to-show-what-my-master-bedroom-looks-like-now video?

Yes.  I will.

Oh.  And the two videos in this post are titled parts 9 and 10.  I didn’t include a video in blog post 9.  It’s confusing, I know.

The e-book mentioned above is now retired, but I have since published two books you’ll want check out: How to Manage Your Home Without Losing Your Mind and Decluttering at the Speed of Life are detailed guides.

Hooray! The Master Bedroom series continues.

Nony–do you think it is a good idea to put all of the parts together under a tab at the top: Maybe as an example of your method in action? I’d love to watch everything all at once. And I think it would be great for others to be able to find these alll in one place. What do you think? Thanks!

PS I made my own decluttering video thanks to you. It isn’t as easy as you mke it look!

I’ve had this post sitting in my inbox since you sent it. Two weeks ago. I’m glad I’m finally getting around to decluttering my emails.
