Conversations with Normal People
The setting – A typical suburban home. Comfortable, relaxed decor. No clutter in the scene.
The characters –
The Slob’s Friend
Various and assorted children of all heights.
(The scene opens as the Slob’s child runs out of the Friend’s master bedroom.)
Slob: (gasps) CHILD, what are you doing? Why were you in there?
Friend: (interrupting) Oh, it’s okay, they’re playing Hide-and-Seek.
Slob: In your bedroom?
Friend: Yeah, kids love to hide in my closet.
Slob: (incredulous) And that’s okay?
Friend: Um, yeah . . . why?
(Fade to blackout as Friend merrily continues playing cards while Slob stares ahead, clearly dumbfounded.)
Absentminded Mother says
Too funny! I'm sure someday kids will be able to come to your house and hide in your closets. How is the master bedroom clean up going?
Going Cerebral says
admittedly, my closet is probably the most organized space in the entire house. but there still isn't hide-n-seek occurring in it. i'm dumbfounded right along with you.
I'm laughing like crazy, because that was my house, wasn't it? Glad you classified me as normal! And I wondered why you were so concerned about them being in my room! I thought you were worried we had a gun or something (which we DON'T). You crack me up.
That's funny, cuz I thought it was my house!!! 🙂 I was gonna re-name myself "Fun Mom". I'll let you be "Fun Mom" also, LeaBeth, if you want.

Oh my word! This is SO funny! I would DIE if a guest wandered into my closet! I would just have to hope they could make it out alive!
You made me laugh so much. It was the list of characters that killed me.
I totally get it!! My kids (and friends kids….arrgghh) love playing hide and seek in our house….as there are SOOOO many places to hide (aka clutter piles) but the master bedroom is a big off limits area…mainly because it would be hard to get to the closet… I love your blog so much..it’s nice to know I’m not alone!!
LOL. Love the dramatic presentation, and how funny that two of your friends thought they were the other mom. I’m totally with you in bewilderment as how this can even happen. My other question for the clean closet moms is “Where do you hide birthday/Christmas presents?”
Yeahhhh….no. Clean or not, no one goes in our room. Actually, I prefer visitors don’t even go upstairs. It’s the one place my people can go when they need peace. When my kids have cousin-company, they are not allowed in anyone else’s room except the host’s.
Yeah, even when my room is totally clean (which actually happens occasionally!) I still wouldn’t let kids play in there. That’s the grown-up space, and we have a right to privacy and not having kids going through all our stuff or messing up our one kid-free zone. I know a lot of other people are fine with it, but that’s a hard no from me.
