Focus Check Friday – Come Join In!

I’m pretty sure it’s Thursday night.  It doesn’t seem possible, but if yesterday was Wednesday, and tomorrow is Friday . . .

So here we go with the third Focus Check Friday.  I was so excited to wake up to multiple links last week.  I hope that it helps you to stop for a moment and collect your thoughts on what is and isn’t working in your home, and maybe determine your focus for next week.  If you’re new here, you can read more about the idea behind Focus Check Friday here.

My focus?

This week has been decent.  Not perfect, but pretty good.  I did all of my weekly tasks, mopping, bathrooms, etc.  My least successful daily task has been the focused 5 minute pick-up.  I’m always amazed at what a difference those make, and how the house doesn’t look nice, no matter what big tasks I do, if I don’t do the daily pick-up.

Next week is the final week before the glorious summer begins.  This means that I have assemblies, picnics, parties, etc. every single day next week.  My goal for the week will be to keep up my daily tasks, putting extra emphasis on the focused 5 minute pick-ups.  I want the house to feel orderly to start the summer.

I shared my goals for the summer earlier in the week.  I’m determined to keep the momentum going that I’ve gained on the house this year.  I need to make checklists for the dusting and vacuuming.  They won’t be anywhere near as detailed as the bathroom checklist, but they need to be done.  I also want to go to the Dollar Tree and get some spray bottles to make kid-safe bathroom cleaners, and get the boys their own supplies to use (sponges, a bucket, etc).  It is my goal to have all of this done next week so that there will be no excuses on Day 1 of summer.

How’s your focus?  Think of this as your excuse to ramble on.  Leave a comment, write a post on your blog and link up below, or just stop for a minute to think about it.  As I’ve said before, keeping my focus is what has made the biggest difference for me on this journey.

If you do link up your post below, be sure to say something like, “I’m participating in Focus Check Friday over at A Slob Comes Clean” and then link back to this post.  If you need help to know how to do this, please ask.  I’ll be happy to help.

You are right about the difference a focused 5 minute pick up can make. If nothing else I try to do it as well.

Hope you have a great weekend!

Sometime tomorrow my homemade cleaning recipes will be up – not sure when…depends on the day but they will be there. I got some great spray bottles from the Dollar Tree with different colored "heads". They've got to be the best spray bottles I've purchased to date.

Thanks for hosting FCF – it's such a great idea!

It's been a pretty good week here! Not necessarily by looking at the house, but when I do things like cook AND do dishes in one day, that really gives me a charge. It's been gardening and yard work the past 2 days, and I feel pretty good about that, though just finally got a bunch of dishes washed today. Then I realized the little one is out of short socks… we're going to have to go shopping tomorrow 'cause she doesn't have enough. Shucks. :>)

The kids will love having their own box/bucket filled with cleaning supplies. One quick tip: you can buy a regular sized broom, use a saw to cut the broom handle to the size you want based on the child's height, then pop the plastic tip of the broom handle onto the adjusted broom. Those broom handle tips always slide off easily, but you can check it in the store before you buy it to make sure. I can see your daughter loving her my-sized broom! Another thing: you can find plastic, disposable (one-use) gloves in the cleaning sections of most dollar stores. They come in a huge package. You can use an old hair scrunchie to secure it to their wrists (not too tight!) And they are helpful for those really messy jobs for little fingers. You are doing a wonderful job–keep up the great work!

Going through your blog as a break from my cleaning. I set a timer do some work read a post. I set the timer because I can do any chore as long as I don’t have to do it for more than 5 min. Maybe I have a finishing problem.

I need a focus Friday. These last few days I have not done the dailies because the weather was nice and I was gardening and then sore from the garden. (Not like you are, but still enough for an excuse) Even though I live by myself, it makes such a difference.
    Time to get focused again!
