New Non-Negotiable for the Week

I’m actually excited about this one.

For several weeks now, I’ve been working on laundry. Laundry gets on my nerves.

I still don’t have it conquered, by any means. I did do better this week, but it’s definitely not a habit yet.

But I am tired of different aspects of laundry dominating my non-negotiables for the last few weeks. So while I’m going to continue to working on the consistency of that task, I’m adding a new one.

I mentioned earlier this week that even though I grumble about my evening routine, I love that it shows such results. So I’m adding one more thing to it. I’m adding it because I did it twice last week as a natural extension of my existent routine.

I’m going to do an additional 5 minute pick-up as part of my evening routine.

I’m thinking 5 minute pickups are how normal people keep their house from falling into chaos. I don’t think they have to name them, like I do. They just do them.

Doing a pick-up time in the middle of the day has made a huge difference. But picking up the clutter before bed does something mentally for me. I’ve always heard people talk about how they just can’t go to bed if they haven’t picked up. I wished I was that way. I’m still not “that way” but I can see how satisfying it is to go to bed with my home looking nice. If I could just get used to that enough that I couldn’t go to bed with it messy, that would be huge.

Even though I could probably spend another 6 weeks working on the laundry habit, I need to do this more concrete, “accomplishable” task so I can feel some success.

Stay tuned this week to see how it goes!

Sounds like Flylady’s 5 minute room rescue and hot spot fire drill combined….I hope you have been able to maintain this habit. I am still working on the flying thing through Flylady and have managed to maintain the clean sink before bed…and now I am working on my small morning routine and small before bed routine.
