Nothing gets my cleaning juices flowing like knowing my doorbell is about to ring.
The doorbell that gets my attention the fastest is the one that signals guests have arrived for a holiday celebration.
I’ve come a long way in my home. I’m willing to open my front door with minimal notice. Some of that willingness comes from all the decluttering I’ve done over the years, and some of it comes from the fact that I know people need to see reality.
But the holidays aren’t about reality, right? They’re about magic.
The magic of celebrating and laughing and smiling in a perfect environment.
But to make room for the holiday magic, I have to clean first.
While cleaning isn’t my favorite, I’ll happily choose the bathroom when we’re divvying up the chores to get the house holiday ready. It is a confined space, I have some new and adorable holiday decorations to put in it, and I am really enjoying Scrubbing Bubbles® bathroom cleaning products that make cleaning bathrooms a less dread-worthy chore!
Before I put out my cute new stuff, all the surfaces have to be clean. The Scrubbing Bubbles® Bathroom Grime Fighter Spray is perfect for this and I am very happy with its citrus scent. With minimal effort, just a good spray and wipe down, the sink is clean and the faucet is shiny. I use the same on the outside of the toilet, and I love how the Scrubbing Bubbles® Bathroom Grime Fighter Spray gets into all the crevices where the toilet seat is attached. I used Scrubbing Bubbles® Bubbly Bleach Gel Toilet Bowl Cleaner to be sure the toilet bowl was sparkly.
And then my favorite, the stamp thingy. Technically, it’s called the Scrubbing Bubbles® Fresh Gel Toilet Cleaning Stamp. The toilet cleaning stamp stamps on after the toilet is clean, and then it keeps the toilet fresh which means the whole bathroom smells cleaner, longer. Right. Using that handy dandy product means the effort I’m putting in today lasts longer! I’m the Queen of Cleaning Once and Hosting Twice Three Times as Many Times As I Can . . . so I’m all for that!
Once all the scrubbing is done (with little actual scrubbing on my part . . . ) I make the bathroom look pretty by adding some things to hopefully tie in some holiday colors with my beloved blue walls. I add a new hand towel, a small wall hanging and a fun, colorful tree decoration. I also changed out the hand soap dispenser to be a super cute one for the holidays.
A few tips for making your bathroom holiday ready:
- Change out the hand towels. Pack away the ones you use for the rest of the year, and put out something festive. This brightens up the bathroom without adding any extra stuff.
- Use the Scrubbing Bubbles® Fresh Gel Toilet Cleaning Stamp to make the absolute most of the effort you put in when you do the Big Clean. Every time someone flushes the toilet, the toilet cleaning stamp will work for you to keep it fresh. That’s a relief to a hostess who doesn’t want to think about toilets in the middle of a party.
- Give any bathroom with inaccessible-to-children storage its own set of Scrubbing Bubbles® bathroom cleaning supplies instead of having one set that you use to clean all of your bathrooms on Bathroom Cleaning Day. If you notice a mess while you are in the bathroom during a holiday party, you’ll be able to clean it up right away and no one will be the wiser.
What’s your favorite way to spiff up your guest bathroom (even if the “guest bathroom” is your bathroom!) for the holidays?

I just happened to be reading this post sitting in my car outside the supermarket. So I rushed in and Hooray! they had all three of these exact products.
When I was home from work briefly at lunchtime I took a few minutes to use the Scrubbing Bubbles to clean my bathroom sink. Oh my! It was so easy!
And now, words I never thought I’d say: I can’t wait to get home and clean the toilet.
I’m caught up! (With the blog, not yet my house.). Eight days of obsessive reading and I have read the whole blog from the beginning. It has been great to see your whole journey from the beginning, and I have learned so much.
Next to get and read your books, and then start listening to your podcasts.
I am running to the store right now to buy the stampy thing! (OK, when I finish this post I will.)
I always have a couple of the grown (single) kids staying a few days over the holidays and that’s a great way to keep the upstairs guest toilets fresh during their stays.
Thanks for all the great tips. I really love reading your blog posts.
Hope your holidays are great!
What do you recommend to clean the bathtub and the bathroom walls?
I like the scrubbing bubbles foam shower cleaner.
