I Don’t Care for Change

Yes, my mother taught me not to use the word “hate.”

Change is hard.  Even though I always eventually adjust, I do tend to drag my feet and get a little grumpy while it’s happening.

This week was the beginning of a few changes which meant that my schedule was messed up.  I wasn’t home on Tuesday to clean bathrooms.  So I did it on Monday.  For me, a VERY big accomplishment.

HOWEVER, I obviously didn’t do my daily pick-ups, or ever finish folding the laundry from Monday, or many other little things.  And when I ignore a few things, more happen.  Like hangers being tracked all over the living room floor.

So today, I took the time to recover the living room.

I like it like THAT.  As things continue to change, I have to adjust and figure out how to keep it like that.

Love your blog, I've been following it for a little while now. I love how you document everything. Love a good before and after picture! Keep up the good work and keep inspiring us. 🙂

I am also a slob and it drives my husband CRAZY! I try and try to keep things clean. I really do. Your blog inspires me everyday to get up and clean at least one room/area a day. You have a beautiful home! Did you store anything in an attic/basement? How do you decide what to keep and what to give away? That's probably my hardest problem. I wish my den could look as clean as yours!!!

THank you so much for the encouragement Radel!

DWin, it means so much to know that maybe me putting my own struggles out there encourages someone else! I don't have a basement (though I've asked hubby to move somewhere that has them!) and our attic gets so hot in the summers that I pretty much only use it to store Christmas decor.

As far as deciding what to purge, it's SO HARD, but has definitely become easier as I've done it more and more. Under "My Methods" (link is at the top just under my blog name) I have a link to my two decluttering questions. Having just two short questions helps me a lot.

Good job today! I had been ignoring the kitchen and I just decided "enough" and did it and it feels so much better going into the weekend with a clean space (it's the only space that is clean right now) 🙂

Nony, it really does help the rest of us who arent' as far in our " recovery " process as you are <3 I'm taking back my sewing room today. Why, WHY, WHY!? do i just throw everything willynilly while I sew? Knowing i will have to clean it up? Old habits die hard. or not at all…

What is the deal with coat hangers? They multiply like rabbits and place themselves in strange places. Ironically, when hanging laundry, you can't find them. Weird.

what about having your kids do a pick up in the living room. my kids (10,9,7) have to pick up the living room everyday. it doesnt get to dirty but it really helps me out being 6 months pregnant and exhuasted after spending all day taking care of my VERY ACTIVE 2 year old.
