Saturday’s Daily Checklist

Made bed.

Put dishes in dishwasher throughout the day.

Swept in the afternoon.

Checked the bathroom counters and floors for clutter.

Did five-minute walk-through.

I did the bare minimum today. But for me, doing anything on a Saturday is an improvement. I’ve always resented that there is no such thing as a day off from housework.

I need to get over it.

I feel the same way! But taking the time to keep it up…even on days we think we should have off, helps. Just doing the bare minimum can keep it from getting overwhelming. Now I just need to remember that. 🙂

It’s almost worse when you work. When I have a day off i use it to justify not cleaning… I mean don’t I deserve a break? But on the days that I’ve worked it’s always well I worked today…

And that’s how I ended up with an overwhelming mess *sigh*

I love your blog! Thank you! I have SO MANY of your thought patterns, and I needed it pointed out that it is a thought pattern! I always think “oh I need to throw away that plastic cup” or “I need to take this upstairs” and then I don’t do it for days! I also let things get out of control on the weekends. I also need to get over the fact that there is no off day for housework, or for being a mom. I don’t “notice” mess like you said. I have started sweeping the kitchen every day and it is amazing – I can’t trust myself to notice the kitchen floor getting dirty or the bathrooms until it is just really beyond messy. However, I do usually have things picked up and I do the dishes almost every night. I don’t notice “real cleaning” needs like vacuuming and brushing out the toilet. Anyway, I love reading your thoughts because they are so similar to mine, and it is helping me identify my “problem” :).

Ok no, but really, there needs to be a day off of house work every once in a while. I also struggle with the idea that i have to do this every day for the rest of my life. MOM NEEDS A BREAK!

But like someone else said, when I work, I use my day off to “recoup” and then when i worked that day, well I worked! It’s a never ending attempt to shove everything under the rug, and it 100% does not work.
