Your Decluttering Method Makes Sense to My Brain

reader story decluttering method makes sense to my brain at aslobcomesclean.com
I love this story from one of you who loves the Take Your House Back course and the magic that happens when Dawn, Cas and I work together! I think many of you will relate to her story! She gave me permission to share.
By the way . . . the Take Your House Back course (that I teach with Dawn from The Minimal Mom and Cas from Clutterbug) is on SALE NOW! Go grab it and start taking your house back!
I don’t know if you actually read these, BUT if by chance you DO happen to read this then I would like to tell you that finding you on youtube has been one of the best things that ever happened to me.
Your methods work for me and I have spent 57 years on this earth and no one else has ever helped me learn to declutter in a way that makes sense to my brain.
I grew up in a house that was spotless, except for my bedroom. My mother and hers before her all had some secret gene or some sorcery that was never passed on to me. My sister got it, but me . . . nope. When I left home and eventually got married and had 3 sons, I then became the Mom that when we heard a knock at the front door grabbed all 3 kids and yelled “everyone hide” and dove behind the couch to pretend we weren’t home. I am kidding . . . well sort of.
I have really tried so many different methods over the years but nothing ever stuck. I used to think, “Well maybe one day when my kids are all moved out I won’t live in chaos anymore.” That day has came and gone. The kids are now 34, 33 and 30 and my house is still a disaster. BUT then I found you.
I like to call you Doo-lolly Dana, I hope that is okay. I mean it in the most endearing way, I love the expressions you come up with. If it helps, my nickname for Cas is Crazy Pants Cas. I also absolutely adore Dawn, but haven’t decided on a silly nick name for her yet.
So I found all three of you around the same time, about a year ago, and have been binging your channels ever since. You each bring something to the table that when put together it is amazing.
That being said you are probably thinking, “Wow, a year I bet she really has her ** together now.” Nope. I started out doing a lot more watching/listening and a lot less doing. I have learned in the last few months that more gets done if I actually get up and do something rather than watch everyone else getting it done.
I am a visual learner so in the beginning a lot of the videos I was watching were ones where you all were doing stuff as you talked to us. Now I know that if I want to get MY house in order I need to throw on one of the Q&A videos or just an audio podcast and save the other ones for rest time.
So while I am currently still living in chaos, it is not the same chaos I was in a year ago. And it gets better and better as I go. The best thing I have gotten from you three wonderful ladies is that I now BELIEVE that I will one day be living without 99% chaos. I also won’t be leaving my kids with all this mess when I am gone. That does not mean I will be throwing everything away, I am not and will never be a minimalist. That has never been my goal. I just want my house to be functional and not feel ashamed when people stop by.
Which by the way, even though I still have a ways to go, I have learned to let go of the shame. It is what it is and I am working on it and I am so proud of myself. One day soon I will be living the dream of being able to clean the house without stuff shuffling until I am too tired to do the actual cleaning.
I also know that my story will not end with “Okay I finally decluttered my house, it is perfect I am done, the end.” I know once I finally get my house how I want it, there is still continuous maintenance. I so look forward to that day when keeping things in order is what I have to do because I know I have the tools, mindset and ability to do that thanks to you.
I really do love all 3 of you, but your method is the one I really needed and the one that tackles my biggest obstacles. Cas will come into play more once I get my house decluttered because she teaches me to organize in a way that works for me, but I am not there yet. And even though minimalism is not my end goal, Dawn is always there to remind me that I do not need to hold onto everything. It is okay to let stuff go.
On the slight chance you do happen to see this I wanted to thank you for changing the way I feel about decluttering and the way I feel about myself. You have freed me of the weight I have lived under for so long and I am so grateful!
