I’m answering your decluttering questions that were submitted at AskDanaKWhite.com
- What is the best way to downsize/go through Christmas stuff?
- I am doing your “14 Days to Opening Your Front Door to Guests.” It is lovely, and if I didn’t have anything else to do, I am sure I could accomplish it. What do I do about all the random holiday activities that take up time I need for my room cleaning schedule?
- How do I tell the difference between everyday holiday chaos and a sign my house isn’t nearly as “under control” as I thought it was?
- How do I get the quantity of linens down when we often have guests who need a sheet set on a mattress or extra pillow cases, and it’s hard to estimate what we will need? I’m tempted to keep more.
- Please show me how to declutter my ornaments! I feel everything is sentimental. Help!

Hi from NS Dana! 1)Thank you for the care you put into your podcasts & videos. U r my go to ‘radio’ channel to listen to to focus on as I push thru nasty everyday cleaning chores. It sure is not ‘the one & done’ & play vacation game. It is a constant rotate & do it all over again the next day eh! 2)Ditto on the spare room that is for when our youngest University student comes home on holidays or such. Yes that is the cleanest rm in our house. Hallelujah. Though it does need serious decluttering before she arrives home for Christmas break. The *closet of that room also is used as a *pantry. In each season of Life101 I must be creative in how we use the house/space we got. Dressers can serve as dual purpose. I do get decision fatigue. I do welcome fresh ideas. 3) We have been in a draught season where rain has been so less that again being creative, resourceful, & consistent in extra everyday tasks. Cannot use dishwasher, washing machine, nor flush toilet. Yeh it’s like camping 24/7. We haven’t had company over in a few years. We have boxes of 4 liter jugs of water in entryway & livingrm. Bathtub holds buckets &jugs of rainwater. There r jugs of water going up side of stairs & down side of basement stairs. We use wood heat to keep oil & electric bills down. So there’s dry wood in livingrm. We have 1 sweet 12yr old short haired dog who sleeps in her bed in livingrm. There are other variables that may be tmi. So let’s just say that I appreciate your being transparent to us, to me Dana. Thanks for being real & showing us that your day can & will get better with changing our stinking thinking. We are not quitters. Yeh we may over think, & yes I have been known to, but your remedies like ‘ take it there now; don’t put it down but put it away; where would u look for it; etc- are golden. ✨Blessings to you. Congrats on your newest book. I did borrow it from local library bookmobile but I must buy one though Christmas is near Hmm. 💝 Merry Christmas to you & yours, fr NS, the South Shore, Canada🌲🍁
