How to Keep Up with Emailed Coupons

I love my iPhone.

I knew I would, I just didn’t know how much.  It hasn’t solved all my problems, but it sure does help with a lot of things!

One of the things I love is that I don’t have to print out (and then lose or forget) emailed coupons.

(Just to be clear, I’m not talking about printable grocery coupons.  I haven’t used those in a while, but I don’t know of any option other than printing them.)

I’m talking about the kind you get from restaurants and retailers when you’re on their email lists.  Did you know that most companies will let you show them the coupon on your phone?  They can even scan a barcode on it!

I get so excited when I get an email with a buy-one-get-one or kids-eat-free coupon.

I’m so happy when I remember that coupon while we’re out.

I get so frustrated when it takes me forever to pull up the email by searching on my phone.

I get a lot of email.  I’m not very good about deleting.  An iPhone only initially searches through the most recent emails.  So . . . sometimes it takes me a while to search for a specific email I got three weeks ago.

I made a folder for “Coupons” and when I remember, I file the email right away in that folder so it’s ultra-easy to find when we need it.

Yay for avoiding paper waste!  Yay for one less thing to lose!!!

Do you have a smartphone?  What’s your favorite thing about it?

That’s a pretty good idea! I’m always searching through my iphone for emails too!

I don’t have an iPhone, so I don’t really know how it works, and I’m not sure what email client you’re using, but it might be possible to set up a filter to automatically send emailed coupons to a coupon folder. Then you don’t have to risk forgetting.

I absolutely LOVE my iPhone. It’s rarely more than a few inches away from me. (Heck, I’ve been known to tuck it in my sports bra when I go for my morning walk, even!) My favorite thing about it: reading my favorite blogs and news sites, then using Pocket (formerly Read It Later) to bookmark those I want to come back to when I’m on my laptop or iPad. (Another gadget I absolutely LOVE.)

Ok. So, I am new to my iPhone 4. How do you set set up a folder? I am using the email button but I can’t see how you would create a new folder. I can go on my computer and make a folder but it doesn’t carry over yo my phone.
My only thought would be that I would have to go thru safari and log on my main email account and not just the mail button. Any thoughts?

Maybe this will help Joan. I use Yahoo Mail, and discovered that the Mail button acts differently than going to the Yahoo button to get to your email. It’s been so long ago that I don’t remember the difference. I don’t use email on my phone that much (it’s just easier to use the computer since I’m home a lot), but if I use the Mail button and can’t get what I want, then I go to email thru the Yahoo button.

I’ve been reading your blog from the beginning wondering if there would be an electronic clutter post 🙂 glad to see it and a good solution for managing email. Sometimes when I look at my email I think …seriously, even my inbox is a disaster! Is it this hard for everyone?
