Welcome to Focus Check Friday! If you want to read more about the idea behind it, go here.
I also want to take the opportunity to point out that I have added an “A Slob Comes Clean Community” feature on the blog, powered by BlogFrog. I love it! You can use it as a place to pose a question or a discussion topic. You can also respond to the topics posed by others. It’s ultra easy to join and participate. Just scroll down the page and look for it in the column on the right. It even has my picture . . . a big step for me.
Now for my own focus check. Whew! This has been a great opening week for summer! We’ve slept late, been swimming, watched movies, played baseball games, done tennis lessons, swimming lessons, and much much more.
And . . . . we’ve done okay with the house. Every day, the boys have swept the kitchen and wiped down the counters and table. I’ve loaded and run the dishwasher each night and unloaded it each morning. It makes such a huge difference in my mindset to have a nice-looking kitchen each morning. Somehow, it helps me see the point in keeping the rest of the house under control.
We’ve also been doing our weekly tasks. Monday we did laundry, although I waited until yesterday to finish the folding. Tuesday we cleaned bathrooms. Thursday my daughter dusted, and one boy mopped the kitchen while the other boy vacuumed the rest of the house.
I’m glad we’ve generally stayed on task this week, but I still haven’t done well with the focused pick-up times. Isn’t that always my big downfall? There are shoes strewn at the backdoor, the dining table isn’t covered, but has too many things that require thought that I don’t want to give.
For next week, my goal is to keep going on what we’ve been doing this week. Hopefully, two weeks of doing the tasks will make it feel like our new normal. The week after that is our VBS, and I have no delusions that we’ll keep the momentum up that week.
How has your focus been this week? It’s so hard to stay focused in the loosi–goosiness of summer. What are your plans for next week? Perhaps it’s just keeping up with the dishes.
Feel free to share/blab/yak about whatever’s going on in your mind concerning your focus. Maybe you’re having some major frustrations, or maybe you want to brag about your successes. This is your moment to remind yourself to stop and think about what is and isn’t working in your desire to make your home orderly.
You can leave a comment, either here or in your head, or write a post on your blog to link up below. If you do link up below, please say something like “I sometimes read this blog called, A Slob Comes Clean, and boy am I glad I’m not like her, but I am linking up to her Focus Check Friday” and then link back to this post.

This week was our fisrt week of summer vocation. Next week goals is not sleeping in late and meal planning. This week the earliest I have been up is 930a and menu planning, last minute suppers all week not good for the budget or they were not so healthy.

Love your site. Sometimes I feel like you are writing about my house. I am known for my frantic company coming start the cleaning panic and please don't open any closets when they get here. Keep up the great posts. They are very motivating

I started reading your blog at the beginning, so I’m not sure if you still have this focus check Friday going on, but I’ll join in because I keep talking to myself about the same things so I won’t forget, and maybe this will help me to let it go. We just got back from a quick vacation. The house was cleaned before we left, but there are still some projects left to tackle. My master bedroom never got cleaned, the kids did a lousy job in their bathrooms, and I have a list of areas to declutter. My first priority next week and even now throughout the weekend is to maintain. Then as I get a chance, I plan to tackle the clutter a little at a time, starting with my bedroom. I have a question though: how did you manage to get your house in order and still be able to do fun stuff with your daughter while she was home? I seem to have a one track mind. If I am in cleaning mode, I cannot easily switch roles and play with my kids. If I am in fun mommy mode, I cannot switch roles and clean up after ourselves. Any ideas on how I can take on both roles?
