Here Comes the Big Bad Garage Sale

Here Comes BIG, BAD Garage Sale at ASlobComesClean.com

I’m having a big garage sale.

Really big.

As in, it’s tempting to list it in the paper as a multi-family mega sale, just so people don’t think all of this junk is mine.

But it is mine.

There’s nothing like wearing a dust-mask and sorting through bags and bags and bags of STUFF in your rather-warm garage to make you determined to never let clutter take over your life to this degree again.

Never ever.

I have made some progress this week.  It’s no longer a mass of stuff, but a somewhat sorted mass of stuff.  I’m hoping to get the rest of the sorting done tomorrow, and the pricing done on Friday.

I know that even non-slobs have garage sales.  I know that there will be reasons to have one in the future . . . but I’m hoping that they’ll be a little smaller than this one.  When it takes two full tables to put out one child’s clothing for the past year (precariously stacked in 3-foot-high piles), not including the things that were hand-me-downs and have gone in to our pass-it-on bag, you know that you have a problem.

I’m almost there.  I have one chest in the garage to go through, a chest to move stuff out of (so it can go in the sale), and my closet needs another once-over.  I know I haven’t worn most of what’s in it in well over a year.

Today I was gone from early morning to late afternoon, so my checklist didn’t get completely done.

I did:

Empty dishwasher.

Make bed.

Clean kitchen.

Sweep kitchen.

I know what you mean about huge garage sales. After years on holding onto 'stuff' I finally had enough and let it all go. We ended up holding our sale over the course of two weekends – two days each weekend. Then we donated what was left. It was exhausting but we walked away with well over $1000 – good luck with yours!!

Letting it all go – feels soooo good!

That sounds like some awesome progress, though! We are going to have a big yard sale soon, too. I am tired of holding on to junk. Let's make some money!

Good luck on your garage sale! I need to have one, but the person with most of the "stuff" can't seem to let go of it. Oh well… maybe some day.

You have surpassed me on tasks completed today. I made my bed, asked a kid to do the dishes (she unloaded everything but the utensils, then loaded it with dirty dishes and more utensils), I had another kid take out the trash (most of it made it to the garbage can), the third kid claimed she needed to study for finals, so I let her off the hook. Still need to wipe off the counters and sweep. Think I can convince a kid to do it? Yeah, it probably won't happen tonight.

Thanks for all the great yard sale posts and tips. They couldn't have come at a better time! We had ours on Saturday and we got rid of quite a bit of stuff. The rest went to Goodwill except a couple of items I'm going to try to sell on Craigslist first. Thanks again, and hope your sale goes well!

Wow, sounds exactly like mine. I sure wish we could do it together. I'm sorting through piles while still trying to find a place to have the sale. Hope yours goes well.

Good Luck with your yard sale. I had two and so far and wasn't very profitable from either.
