Daily Checklist – FRIDAY!

My kindergartner is finally getting why Fridays are awesome! He’s loving school, but there’s something about the freedom that comes with a Friday afternoon.

I used to spend Friday mornings trying to get the kitchen to some semblance of clean. I liked to start off the weekend that way since weekends usually mean(t) total chaos in the kitchen.

There wasn’t anything to do in the kitchen other than the normal daily routine I’ve been doing for more than four weeks now. I guess I could have mopped or something, but let’s not get crazy. The kitchen looks good enough for guests, so I’m going to be happy with that this week since I needed to spend 4 hours on the computer getting the slide show ready for my dad’s birthday party. (Do they still call them slide shows?)

Today I:

Made bed.

Emptied dishwasher and cleaned kitchen.

Swept kitchen while one kid was still eating breakfast.

Checked bathroom floors for clutter.

Did walk-through of house to look for clutter in the cleaned places. It took less than the 5 minutes designated for this, since I’ve been picking up as I go along.

I’m looking forward to adding a new non-negotiable on Sunday for next week. Next week should be pretty normal, so I’m also hoping to get some major de-cluttering done and gain some traction. I’m very thankful that I’ve been able to maintain order this week, so I will be able start where I left off last week, not having gone backward into messiness like I normally would have.

I’ll be leaving early tomorrow and gone til Sunday, so I may not post a daily checklist. But hey, if we’re gone, we can’t make messes, right?

I’m here in 2025 and, if my math checks out, your kindergarten son is probably around 21 by now. Whoosh, time does fly… So, I read your book, Decluttering at the Speed of Life and, while it spoke to my soul and I was able to get some decluttering done, I somehow lost steam. I think I just need to keep pummeling my brain with “you”, so I’m here reading your blog from the beginning. (I’m also now reading another of your books, How to Manage Your Home…) You really did something amazing with this blog for all of us slobs out there. Thank you for sharing your deslobification process with me. (And the world, I guess, but mostly me…) Hold my hand, Dana. Don’t let go…
