Do you experience this disconnect? Smart in most things, bewildered by others?

October 1, 2026 By Dana White Leave a Comment

Over the summer, when my college kids were home, we rewatched the sitcom Parks and Rec. If you’ve never watched it, you should. Just give it until a few episodes into season two. That’s when it gets truly hilarious.

The main character is Leslie Knope. She is intelligent, driven, and passionate. She gets things done that no one else can get done.

She is known for putting together detailed notebooks for every single project/task that crosses her desk. She literally thinks of everything and considers the feelings of everyone. (Except Jerry.)

At work, she is incredibly driven and organized and thorough. It’s her identity.

But in one of the first few seasons, her best friend sees her house for the first time. There’s stuff everywhere. All sorts of stuff in all sorts of piles. Her friend is truly mind-boggled that the incredibly-organized-at-work Leslie Knope has an incredibly disorganized home.

A writer on that show gets it. They get the disconnect.

If you struggle with clutter or home management or procrastination or a combination of all those things, let me make a few guesses about you.

You’re intelligent.

You’re really skilled at some things. Those skills impress some people.

You feel bewildered because you can’t understand why one certain thing is so hard for you when it feels like that thing isn’t hard for other people who struggle with the things that are second nature to you.

My strategies for breaking through procrastination aren’t for people who never get anything done. They’re for people who get some things done, but get completely stuck when they try to do other things.

I get the disconnect and the frustration that disconnect causes. My new book, Procrastinators Get Stuff Done is written for us. I’m sharing how I’ve learned to identify the thought processes I have that backfire into procrastination. I’m also sharing the strategies I use to break through that procrastination.

Procrastinators Get Stuff Done comes out NEXT TUESDAY!!! October 6th. If you want the preorder bonuses, you need to preorder now and then fill out the form linked here.

And I have exciting news! We’ve added a bonus to the bonuses! A fifth exclusive podcast episode (video and transcript are also available) in which I help Lisa apply my Anti-Procrastination Process from the book to her unique procrastination situation. Lisa’s family member requires multiple caregivers, and she’s been wanting to create a system that will bring all the caregivers’ observations together so they can find patterns and learn how to best help.

I think you’ll love this session! If you’re a caregiver, you know how emotionally and physically exhausting caregiving is.

Preorder Procrastinators Get Stuff Done wherever you like to buy books. Then, go here to claim your preorder bonuses!

The two steps for getting the preorder bonuses:

  1. Order the book wherever you like to buy books. (There are direct links to different retailers here.)
  2. Fill out the form to claim your preorder bonuses at DanaKWhite.com/procrastinate.
  3. Immediately get an email with the book excerpt and instructions for accessing the four exclusive podcasts.
  4. Watch your email for instructions on joining the book club after the book releases on October 6th.

If you’re worried this book that will make you feel stressed, I encourage you to watch or listen to this conversation with my editor about what makes this book different from a “productivity” book. I especially love how she describes the difference between my process (that relieves pressure) and checklists (which make her feel pressured).

Want to know the behind-the-scenes scoop about why I’m pushing so hard for preorders? Go here for my (long and detailed) explanation.
