Oh.
One thing I didn’t mention in my Gameroom Reveal post yesterday (that might have made a slight difference in the overall look of the room . . . ) was that I emptied the Donate Spot.
Yes. I do believe it made a difference.
I actually cleared it out on Sunday evening before our home group came over. It took all of about five minutes to make a few trips to my Suburban which was parked in the garage that’s right outside that door.
It’s Friday now, and I’ve been driving around all week with that stuff still waiting to be dropped off at the thrift store.
Here’s hoping two pieces of styrofoam that rub together and squeak and a bell that rings as I drive will help me to remember to drop it all off before it’s time to load up for Spring Break at the Lake after this next week.
(Fingers are crossed.)
So what did I declutter in February?
Well, in addition to hauling that pile out to the Suburban, I “got rid of” a big desk. It’s actually now blocking the other side of the door to the garage, waiting to be hauled out tomorrow.
I also:
- Threw away or took to the Donate Spot many of the things that were COVERING the desk that’s now gone.
- Donated books to the BSF children’s program where I teach, or added them to the Donate Spot.
- Pitched the nothing-wrong-with-them-except-that-we-DON’T-NEED-THEM leftover Valentines.
And I’m sure you’ll be happy to know . . . that I have found a perfect home for Carlina Emmy. The aunt who worked so diligently to get her for me back in the Crazy for Cabbage Patch Eighties reads my blog and asked if she could have her for future granddaughters. Yay!
Except, of course . . . that I put Carlina straight in the Suburban so I’d remember to take her to my aunt . . . and then my daughter happened to remember how much she DOES love her.
Shocker.
OK. It’s time for me to hear what you decluttered this month, or your VERY good and TOTALLY logical reason for not being able to declutter. You can share in the comments or leave a link to a post on your own blog.
If you link up a blog post, PLEASE be sure to link back here within your post. If you’re not sure how to do that, just send me an email and I’ll be happy to help.

ok. now that i’m finally caught up on your blog, will you be doing a decluttering thing each month? or do you take posts weekly? or what?
thanks!!

I came across your blog a few days ago and started reading backwards. You’ve used the word “normal” when referring to everyone but yourself…. I was thinking about that today while decluttering the laundry room and mudroom. I really think we’re more “normal” than you think. If we were “abnormal” would there be so many organization gurus making so much money trying to “transform our lives?” Would daytime TV have commercials to earn your Professional Organizer Degree? Would Flylady have the following she has? I think there are more of us than anyone would care to admit…. But, I digress. =D
Back to decluttering. You’ve inspired me and I’ve made a chart of my very own daily non-negotiables and added a spot to write in something to declutter each and every day. Between yesterday and today, I’ve decluttered my craft room (the next challenge will be to figure out a better way to organize it), my laundry room (which I can’t stop staring at) and finally my mudroom. Maybe I’ll post pictures to Facebook, if I can figure out just how to do that.
Thank you again for your honesty – – it really is like looking in the mirror!

I agree that there are lots of “us” out there! More than I ever imagined!
Great job on all the decluttering. ANd I totally relate to staring at your decluttered laundry room!

just because we are many doesn’t mean we are normal, just that we are many. i refuse to say that we are “common” because that just doesn’t fit us at all.
we just DO NOT see things the same way “normal” people do!

I’ve tried everything, everything but admitting I’m a natural born slob. I’ve tried Flylady and *some* stuff has worked, but not everything. I normally watch the show ‘hoarders’ to make myself feel better. BUT, the point of this comment is to tell you how YOU have changed my life! I don’t have the tunnel vision necessary to not become overwhelmed, and I am the type to step over things like they are meant to be there and never even notice. I linked to a challenge that I failed–but that’s ok. I discovered the beauty of taking pictures! When I take a photo of an area, it gives me the tunnel vision I need to see what should not be there! My pets think I’m crazy and if my husband catches me he may have me locked away, but it’s working!!! Thank you!!!

Hi Nony,
I love reading your updates on how you have decluttered your home. I did quite a bit this week. I went through our arts and crafts. I peeled lots of crayons that I hope to melt someday. I also rehoused my yarn into a deep pocket plastic drawer system. I like that I was able to place almost all of the yarn in there.
I still have a lot more to declutter, but I feel confident that I got a lot done, and it was great exercise, too.

Great job! That got-a-lot-done feeling is awesome, isn’t it?

Nony,
Oh, yes. I definitely feel better. I was stressing about how cluttered some areas really were. Now, I am able to walk around the house with ease. I believe that a cluttered house equals a cluttered mind.

My kitchen is looking SO much better! It’s still not how I want it to be, but doing a few things each day has really made a difference. Now I need to do the neverending laundry…
